The mission of the Amelia Island-Fernandina Restoration Foundation is to promote the preservation of the architectural, historical and archaeological heritage of Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach, FL, through advocacy, education and historic property stewardship.
The Amelia Island-Fernandina Beach Restoration Foundation is Nassau County's preeminent preservation organization. A 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization, the Foundation was formed in 1970 as THE network of committed preservationists.
We applied for and received a grant of nearly $35,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts to hire a professional city planner to refurbish Centre Street from 8th Street to the dock. That was quickly followed by a $1,350,000 grant from the Economic Development Authority to implement the plan which changed the Central Business District from a crumbling 1950s vintage town to a vibrant City Center. In the following years, the Foundation has lead the charge toward restoring the grandeur that was, and is, beautiful Amelia Island-Fernandina Beach, Florida.
